The list of words and the level of the childs understanding of them is a very handy keep sake for us at the moment. We are currently deciding whether or not our daughter is ready for school, and we now have a beginning checklist to ensure some vocabulary and understanding of concept words is at the preschool stage. I think that this is something I have done subconsciously as a parent and it is great to understand the importance of teaching concept words with children. REading the article has made me do this with clear intention with my children and actually made me expand my use of concept words rather than limit my use to ones I think they will understand to help expand their vocabulary. I really like positive reinforcement articles like this one, ones that give parents positive, concrete strategies for improving our parenting.
