School Leavers Still Unsure About Their Career Choice
A study conducted on 1500 participants has revealed the majority (68%) of school leavers are undecided on their career path.
The survey conducted by Martin College, an Australian provider of careers-focused education, has also revealed that 8% have absolutely no idea what they want to do.
For Brisbane school leavers about 36% know the exact career path they want to take, 30% of Sydney schools leavers and 28% of Melbourne school leavers.
When asked which industry they wanted to go into healthcare and medical were voted number one, with IT second and graphic design third.
About half (49%) of school leavers rely on advice from their parents and 87% of parents surveyed stated they want their children to acquire further qualifications upon leaving school.
For students that do not make the grade with HSC results, colleges including Martin College and Tocal Agricultural College offer direct routes to job readiness or an alternative pathway to university.

- Approximately 87% of Australian parents want their children to acquire further study qualifications after school
- About 36% Brisbane, 30% Sydney & 28% Melbourne school leavers know what career they want to pursue
